Veterinary Workforce Shortage Inquiry - Government response

On 9 June 2023 the Legislative Council of the NSW Parliament commenced an inquiry into the veterinary workforce shortage in New South Wales.

The Report of the Committee was tabled on 28 June 2024, making 34 recommendations for action to be taken by the government. Under Standing Order 240, a government response is required within three months of a report being tabled, specifically 30 September 2024.

The Veterinary Practice Act 2003 is the responsibility of the Minister for Agriculture. Noting veterinary practice impacts several other areas across the NSW Government, the government response was prepared by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, in consultation with Department of Climate Change, Energy, Efficiency and Water; Office of Local Government NSW; NSW Education; NSW Health; Local Land Services; NSW Veterinary Practitioners Board; and NSW Transport.
