DPIRD: Animal Research Review Panel webinar series

The Animal Research Review Panel (ARRP), in partnership with NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), is hosting three webinars in 2024 to help educate and raise awareness of the welfare of animals used in research.

The second webinar of the 2024 series was delivered recently and focused on ‘Wildlife Survey Trapping and Transport’.

The Australian Code for the Care and Use of Animals for scientific purposes (the Australian Code) promotes the ethical, humane and responsible care and use of animals for scientific purposes. It emphasises that trapping and transportation methods must support and safeguard animal wellbeing.

This webinar provided insights into:

  • The reintroduction of extinct mammals into feral-predator free areas, presented by Dr. Vicki Stokes from Australian Wildlife Conservancy
  • Balancing risks and benefits of trapping in hot weather to optimise animal monitoring, management and welfare presented by Dr. John Read.
  • Insights into the Myall Lakes Dingo Project, presented by Dr Neil Jordan and Dr Michelle Campbell

Recordings of the webinars are available on the Animal Ethics Infolink website.

The next webinar is scheduled for November 2024 and will focus on ‘Pain management for animals in research’. If you would like to register to receive information about the webinar series, please email animal.welfare@dpird.nsw.gov.au
