I was lucky enough to have been able to attend the International Conference on Avian Herpetological and Exotic mammal medicine (ICARE 2017) in Venice during May to add to my continuing education. It was shorter than I had hoped for my first trip to Europe, but travelling with my friend and colleague, Dr Brendan Carmel, the networking with the absolute best in the world in their field, and the setting all made the trip more than worthwhile.

And before you know it another festive season looms on our horizon, and another issue of Boardtalk is published!
This has been a year of consolidation for the Board, with no changes in administrative personnel or Board members, and no overwhelming controversies facing the Board. However the day-to-day process of regulation has continued, and the evolution of policies and procedures to standardise the Board’s operations is a never ending process.

It has been eight months since the current Board was installed. The Board has an outstanding balance of experience and fresh blood, and it has been a particular pleasure to get to know the new members of the Board.

This edition of Boardtalk is a very special one for me personally as it is my first as the new President of the Board. How did this happen? The term of the previous Board ended on 30 June 2015 and the new Board was appointed by the Governor of NSW on 5 August 2015.
